At the first of the year, Mayor Mark Warba appointed a blue ribbon citizens committee to study the library in Big Rapids. The library has been a very important topic for over 8 years as it has struggled to maintain its financial base and its facility in the face of rising numbers of library users. Discussions of how to fund the library’s future and the adequacy of the present location have challenged decision makers for these years.
The Mayor charged the committee to answer three questions and to report its findings by January, 2008. These questions are: 1) Does Big Rapids continue to need a community library? (if yes) 2) Where should it be located? …Current or other location and 3) How will it be funded?
This web page is dedicated to the pursuit of these questions and the journey of the citizens committee in answering them…
